The Liberal Arts and Sciences programme at UCG enables you to study a wide variety of academic disciplines and to build your own programme to fit your individual skills, interests and ambitions. Whether you're interested in physics or economics, psychology or philosophy, you can study a broad range of subjects whilst developing specialist knowledge in your major discipline.

In the first year you will explore the LAS disciplinary fields (Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities) before choosing one of those fields as a major for your second and third year. You can also choose a free major. The programme focuses on interdisciplinary knowledge, and teaches you to apply creative approaches to complex problems in a series of integrative projects that address real-world societal challenges. You'll also study Research and Methodology courses (including logic, math and philosophy of science) and have the option for an international experience (e.g. study abroad) in your third year.

The programme prepares you for Masters degrees and careers in many different fields including Business, the Arts, Scientific research, Governmental Organisations, NGO's, and more.

opbouwThe first year consists of 30 required credits in Exploring Challenges, Research & Methodology, Skills & Projects and Academic Writing. The other 30 credits are up to the student: courses can be chosen from a wide variety of topics and disciplines, ranging from physics to psychology and everything in between. After the first year, students are able to choose their major orientation and specialise in a particular academic field. The academic core runs through all three years of the programme.
1e jaar The emphasis is on orientation and ideas, seeing and identifying problems and imagining solutions, and students learn to provide informed suggestions on how to contribute to the challenges of modern society. Continuous elements are the Skills & Projects line and the research and methodology courses, both of which help you to reflect on and integrate what you learn in the disciplinary subjects.

2e jaar The second year of the programme focuses on disciplinary specialisation by deepening competences through research methods and major courses. An analytical approach is encouraged as you learn to apply the scientific notions from your major orientation in interdisciplinary projects and learn to convert grand ideas and designs into coherent and theoretically robust solutions.
3e jaar The third year focuses on working on advanced competences and skills to solve complex societal problems. Individualised specialisation and preparation for post-bachelor learning and development are offered through additional major and minor courses. In the Skills and Projects-learning line, the students work in groups on how to make theoretically sound solutions effective: creating leadership. In addition, they work individually on their Bachelor's thesis project.
